A Temporally Accurate and Interactive Atlas of Lebanon's Coastline

About the Project

This interactive atlas offers a dynamic exploration of Lebanon’s evolving coastline, basing data off a 1500-meter coastal buffer and an intersection of a 50-meter contour line inland. It enables a detailed analysis of coastal changes over time, making it an invaluable tool for researchers, urban planners, environmentalists, historians, and the general public. Sponsored by The Honor Frost Foundation, the atlas includes a rich media gallery with aerial imagery, historical maps, contemporary visuals, and archaeological surveys.

Leveraging advanced GIS technology, a temporally accurate and visually compelling representation of Lebanon’s coastline and its evolution is provided. Users can explore the historical development of the coast throughout time spanning The Bronze Age until present, identify patterns of change, and assess potential impacts of future coastal dynamics. This comprehensive resource supports informed decision-making, conservation efforts, and a deeper understanding of Lebanon’s maritime heritage.

The atlas is particularly crucial for maritime archaeology, offering a solid foundation for studying coastal processes, assessing vulnerabilities, and developing strategies for sustainable coastal management.
