Services
We reimagine how complex data is collected, curated, and shared.
Services
By combining geospatial science, open-source technologies, and interdisciplinary research, the lab transforms raw datasets into interactive, spatially-driven narratives that unfold online across space and time. With experimentation and impact at its core, ICIL offers a wide range of services — from spatial analysis and database architecture to field data workflows and transmedia storytelling. ICIL’s collaborations are diverse and ultimately result in web tools that are not only rigorous and accessible, but also built to be shared and experienced widely.

WebGIS and Interactive Platforms
Custom-built WebGIS applications enable users to interact with data through spatial and temporal interfaces, which serve as spaces for exploration, education, and collaboration.
- Interactive, browser-based map tools
- Time-aware and multi-layered visualizations
- Story maps and spatial timelines
- Real-time data integration from field collection tools

Consulting and Research Collaboration
ICIL provides research support and technical consulting across the academic and nonprofit sectors. Projects range from one-time data visualizations to long-term digital platforms developed in partnership with faculty, research institutes, and civil society organizations.
- Translation of tabular and textual datasets into spatial formats
- Design and implementation of digital research components
- Contribution to grant development and interdisciplinary proposals
- Spatial strategy for public outreach, teaching, and policy

Spatial Analysis and Mapping
ICIL conducts spatial analysis to reveal relationships, patterns, and changes over time. This includes the production of thematic maps, historical reconstructions, and spatial models relevant to fields such as public health, cultural heritage, and urban planning.
- Spatial statistics and pattern detection
- Historical and predictive mapping
- Georeferencing and digitization
- Cartographic design for research and public engagement

Geodatabase Design and Data Stewardship
Structured spatial data systems provide a foundation for robust and reproducible research. ICIL offers end-to-end support for managing spatial data infrastructures and digital repositories.
- Relational and spatial database architecture
- Data cleaning, normalization, and transformation
- Metadata standards and versioning
- Long-term repository and archival solutions

Capacity Building and Training
ICIL leads technical workshops and training programs for students, researchers, and institutional partners. These programs strengthen capacity in data analysis, spatial thinking, and digital research tools.
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Mobile data collection and fieldwork methods
- Data analysis workflows and visualization
- Full scope training* on relevant systems and platforms.
* Custom sessions are offered in collaboration with university centers, units, and faculties across disciplines.

Field-to-Web Applications
The lab develops systems that bridge fieldwork and online platforms, enabling seamless data collection, mapping, and dissemination.
- Mobile forms for offline data collection
- Field-to-web integration with live updates
- Custom applications for participatory research and civic data
