About the Project
lebaneseRepublic is an interactive web application integrating comprehensive spatial data on Lebanon's environmental and geological conditions within a GIS-based temporal interface. The platform draws together three categories of datasets: built environment, land cover, and natural hazards, each structured to support analysis across time from the country's foundation to the present. By georeferencing and layering these datasets within a single platform, it enables the examination of how environmental and geological conditions have evolved in relation to one another, rather than in isolation.
The analytical core of the platform is the interplay between its data layers. Interactive mapping tools allow users to query relationships between land cover change, urban expansion, and natural hazard distribution across defined time periods, identifying trends, spatial patterns, and risk concentrations that would remain obscured within any single dataset.
This capacity for cross-layer temporal analysis is what distinguishes the platform from a static data repository, producing a dynamic environment for evidence-based investigation of Lebanon's environmental evolution.
The platform serves urban planners, environmentalists, geologists, researchers, and policymakers with a shared spatial framework for understanding environmental risk and change at the national scale. Its outputs support risk assessment, sustainable development planning, and informed policy development, grounding decision-making in a documented and queryable spatial record of Lebanon's environmental and geological conditions over time.
