War on Gaza

The War on Gaza platform is an interactive web application documenting building damage and armed conflict activity across Gaza from October 7, 2023 to the present. The platform integrates two data sources: UNOSAT, which provides satellite-derived damage assessments of the built environment, and ACLED, which supplies structured, categorized conflict event data with temporal and spatial precision. Automated updates delivered through ArcGIS Notebook Server ensure a continuously current record that reflects conditions as they develop.

Building damage data is classified into three severity categories: destroyed, severely damaged, and moderately damaged. This classification structure allows users to assess the spatial distribution and intensity of structural destruction across Gaza's built environment at any given point in the conflict's progression. Alongside building damage, the platform documents conflict events across six categories: strategic developments, explosions, riots, battles, attacks on civilians, and protests. The combination of physical damage data and event-level conflict records within a single spatial interface enables users to examine the relationship between conflict activity and its material impact on the urban environment.

The platform serves researchers, humanitarian workers, policymakers, and organizations engaged in conflict response and analysis with a shared, continuously updated situational record. Its threefold purpose is to support humanitarian aid coordination, enable rigorous conflict analysis, and contribute to the historical documentation of the conflict's spatial and material impact from its outset.
